Bumper Crop of PawPaws

The hot dry weather must be conducive to pawpaw fruit.
Lots of bunches hanging in the trees.
Normally there are only one or two fruits hanging from the branches.

As the fruit ripens, it falls to the ground, slightly squishy.
The trail smell like a winery with the ripening fruit fermenting on the ground.

Pawpaws taste like a combination of a kiwi& a banana with a custard-like texture.

Pick some up and put them in your basket!

Visiting Vevay

Today we visited the Swiss Wine Festival in Vevay, Indiana.
Its a quaint festival located right along the mighty Ohio River.

These towers along the river's edge
mark the water level during the flood of 1937.

The festival celebrates the area's wineries and Swiss culture.
My granddaughter & I were able to check out the grape stomp,
but were too late to compete in the competition.

Stomped grapes

The festival also featured lots of entertainment,
such as a parade, well known country singers, a magician,
 these ZuZu Acrobats from Africa,

and even an exotic animal act featuring big cats.

Of course being in wine country we visited a few wineries,
including this one located in beautiful Madison Indiana.

Madison is just a short drive down the river from Vevay.
It has a lovely riverwalk park,
as well as many historic buildings and a thriving downtown.
We decided we need to return for a longer visit sometime.

After a fun day, we headed home,
but not before stopping for supper in Greensburg Indiana
where a tree grows 110 feet above the streets on the courthouse tower.

Puffballs Are Back

All it takes is a few summer rainstorms
to cause the puffballs to pop out.

This one is a big one....
bigger than a basketball!

Frisky Fawn

This fawn was romping in the yard
and kept looking back for mom to follow.
Finally, it ran back into the woods,
probably prompting a reprimand from mom.

A Day at the Fair

Yesterday we made our annual pilgrimage to the State Fair
with eldest granddaughter along.
The fair is always more fun seeing it through a child's eyes.

It is the year of the dairy cow

So we saw lots of dairy related things,
like cows being milked,

petted baby calves,

fed calves,

And even checked out cheese carvings.

We also saw harness racing

learned about farm chores,
such as collecting eggs,

 and shearing sheep.

Saw lots of livestock,

a Super Dog competition,

And rode some rides.

And we met Abe Lincoln!
 It was a fun day!
