Fruits of the Garden

It's been a good year for the garden.

Maybe because I've been home to tend it, due to the pandemic.

Or maybe because I had a soil test done and amended the soil.

Or maybe Mother Nature just blessed me this year.

Lots of Roma tomatoes

Plenty of green peppers and lots of green beans.

We finally resorted to giving veggies away.

No surprise, they were gone within an hour!

Neighborhood Goats

These goats live along my daily bike ride.

Notice anything peculiar about them?

They have wooden dowels taped to their horns!

Best I can figure, someone stuck his head through the fence and couldn't get it back out,

due to the angle of his horns.

So this is the farmers fix.

Pretty inventive!

Indiana Daytrip #4

This week we headed east to Henry & Delaware counties.

We took our bikes and rode the Cardinal Greenway Trail.

Located in east central Indiana, the trail is the longest rail-trail in the state,

spanning 62 mile from Richmond to Marion.

We started our ride in Losantville and rode to Medford, and then back, about 20 miles.

We stopped at this nature preserve which is right next to the trail and stretched our legs.

Wildflowers & an osprey tower in the preserve.

The Edgar & Lois Seward Memorial Prairie in the preserve.

This is the Medford trail head, looking like a typical Indiana scene.
All trailheads have parking, restrooms and an abundance of trail maps.

After our trek, we enjoyed a delicious pizza at the Pizza Barn in little town of Losantville.

Then we took a leisurely drive around the Prairie Creek Reservoir near Muncie.

It was a a beautiful fun Indiana day!

The Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkins are doing quite well this year.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I don't have much else to occupy my time.

A big ole pumpkin blossom

The beginnings of a pumpkin.

A baby pumpkin

We mostly have little mini pumpkins , like this one.

But somehow this big warty one showed up, its basketball sized!

We'll be ready for Halloween this year!

Indiana Daytrip #3

This week, we visited a really nice park in Hendricks County.

McCloud Nature Park is a county park along the Hendricks/Putnam county line.

One of the highlights of the park is this vintage bridge over Big Walnut creek.
The trestle bridge, built in 1913, originally spanned the Monon Creek in Putman county.

It was moved to the park in 2010 at a cost of $817,000.

The view from the bridge.

There's also a nice boardwalk over the wetland area.

Lots of pretty flowers and pollinators.

The park also had unique trail markers, easy for even young kids to follow.

The park is 232 acres of lovely woods, wetlands, and open fields.

There is a nature center, and a live honeybee observation house as well,

but we didn't visit them, due to Covid.

McCloud Nature Park is one of the best parks we've visited in Indiana.

Since we were in the area, we drove to Amo and checked out the Vandalia Trail.

Its a rail trail, paved from Amo to Coatsville, so far, and part of the National Road Heritage Trail.

Very clean restrooms and an equine trail along side of the paved portion.
