Jasper & the Big Green Ball

Jasper was introduced to the big green ball last weekend.
Being a prey species, most horses are frightened of it.
Not Jasper!
I love how he's watching it!

Colorful mushrooms

The only thing I'm spotting lately are mushrooms & bugs.
Too hot for anything else.

Lots of different colored ones, like this green one.

 A bright red one

A dusty gray one.

Bright orange chicken mushrooms.

Here's a strange worm-like one.

Another horse injury

Rocky managed to injure himself,
possibly on a gate latch or sharp branch
while trying to avoid Jasper's domination.

A trip to the vet and some fancy stitches.....

and he's sewn up.
But he'll be staying at the vet's until the drain tube is removed from the wound.
Poor Rocky.

A walk on the prairie

Prophetstown State Park has a tallgrass prairie.

Saw lots of interesting prairie flowers, such as this blue vervain.

Wild potato vine was growing along trail 2 which bordered the prairie.

Teasel & Red Admiral Butterfly

Prairie Coneflower

Beautiful, but what is it?

Here's a dickcissel.

Lots of these guys were singing.

A visit to Historic Prophetstown

We visited historic Prophetstown today.

It is a 1920's era working farm.

The old stove & sink in the kitchen.

The barnyard.

Bo meets a pig.

The horse barn
