Crazy Horse & Badlands

Crazy Horse Memorial is a huge sculpture
depicting an Indian warrior.
The sculpture was started in 1948 and is funded by private donations.

Currently only the head of Crazy Horse is done.
If completed, it will be the largest sculpture in the world.
There's still a long way to go.
On to the Badlands
Where you can look for miles and see no sign of civilization.

Traveling Needles Highway

Needles highway in Custer State Park is a beautiful drive.
Sylvan Lake

 The eye of the Needle

Black Hills scenery

There were several tight tunnels to go through

A tight squeeze for the tour buses

We made it through!
Thanks Les!

South Dakota is one of the prettiest states I've been in.

Yeehaw! Round 'em Up!

By now you've probably figured out that I am in beautiful
South Dakota.
We are here for the annual buffalo round up in Custer State Park.

The buffalo are rounded up annually for branding, vaccinating & sorting.
So lets go!

Here they come!

 Down the hill

Kickin' up dust

Across the plains

Through the gate

Towards the corrals

 Picking up strays

Happy horses & cowpokes
Over 1100 buffalo were rounded up this year.

Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

(as sung to the Christmas carol)

Its beginning to look a lot like Autumn

All along the trails

Yellow & crimson leaves,

A cool refreshing breeze

And fragrant hay all cut and stacked in bales.

Its beginning to look a lot like Autumn

The days are growing short

Pumpkins, gourds & ghosts,

Campfires & wiener roasts

And mom is baking goodies of all sorts!

Its beginning to look a lot like Autumn

  The birds begin to soar,

So go outside & see

the wonders there may be,

outside your own back door!
