Winter Fun

New Year's Eve and its a perfect day for sledding.
Let's go!
The whole family was here, although dear daughter-in-law had to leave for work.
This was a first for the 2 year olds, Maggie & Ryan.

 I think they enjoyed it!
Heidi did not like snow in the face

But she was a trooper anyway

Liddy loves the adrenaline rush.
In fact, I think everyone had a good time.

Dads & sons
Dads & daughters

Moms & offspring

Even grandmas and grandkids
It was a workout climbing back to the top

Unless you were special enough to ride Grandpa's taxi!

Long Night's Moon

also called the "long-night's moon".

Rocky Cowgirl Creations

Beekeeping has many rewards.
Learning to be brave is one.
Having enough self control not to swat is another.
And another reward is beeswax.

Remember during the honey harvest when we had to cut the
 cappings off the honeycomb?
That little curl is pure organic beeswax with some honey stuck to it.

So after melting, straining & filtering the cappings,
I had a disc of pure beeswax just begging to be used.
After much googling, I settled on trying my hand at lotion bars and lip balm.

My lotion bars are simply are a combination of beeswax, coconut oil & shea butter.
And an essential oil for a pleasant scent.

Melt the ingredients in a double boiler.
Plan on never using the boiler again for anything but beeswax combinations,
since it is almost impossible to remove completely.
I found this one at Goodwill.

Pour into molds
( more carefully than I did)

 Let them set up

And there you go - lotion bars!

I also made lip balm, but didn't think to document the process.
Its similar to lotion bars, different proportions & much smaller amounts (think tablespoons)
and I added honey & vanilla essence.
Then I came up with the decidedly uncreative name of
"Rocky Cowgirl".

Spurred on by my success, I made sugar scrub
with honey, brown & turbinado sugars, almond oil and vanilla essence.

Throw in a tiny bottle of pure honey and
there you have the finished Rocky Cowgirl collection.

Christmas gifts for all the special people in my life.

Winter Wonderland

We got 4 more inches of snow on top of the original 4 inches.
Its truly a winter wonderland.

The road less traveled.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

Sometimes I just have to go outside!
Today was one of those days - a snow day.
A blizzard was forecast, but this really is just a big snowstorm.
The temps are mild, mid thirties, and yes, there's wind, but not that bad.
So off we went...

I met up with my hardy neighbor & hiking partner and we trudged into the woods,
marveling at nature's winter beauty.

Christmas Photo Shoot

Every year I try to post photos of the horses in
Christmas finery.
Today I gathered up my decorations and headed out to the pasture.

They immediately noticed something was up.

Rocky inspects the decorations.

Unbeknownst to me, hubby was shooting the decorating process.
Rocky waits patiently for his costume.

There, that should make a good crowning touch.

I am not amused!

Hey its not so bad....

Have a festive holiday!

Christmas Cookies

With just days before our Christmas celebration,
the grandkiddos helped make Christmas cookies.
Rolling

Cutting

 Frosting

Sprinkling

And proudly showing the results

I love the green tooth!

And of course, EATING!
