Wood Ducks, Bugs & Clouds

The secretive Wood Ducks have brood of ducklings.
I was able to get this picture of the mom and ducklings on a log from quite a distance.

Several days later, I snapped this photo of the ducklings after mom flew away.

Daddy Long Legs loafing on a leaf.

Brilliant green Tiger Beetle

Pink clouds tonight at sunset.

Ahhh, the sweet smell of hay!

The wagons arrive.

Ron & Bruce load bales on the elevator.

Into the loft they go.
Where they are stacked.
Its always a relief to get next winter's hay in the barn.

Mayapples

Mayapples look like bullets when they appear in early Spring.

They unfurl their leaves until they look like tiny umbrellas.

Then a single flower appears.

And in May, a tiny apple-like fruit.

They remind me of spectators with umbrellas at a rainy sporting event.

A Fine Spring Morning

The woods smelled like a dryer sheet this morning,
because these were blooming, wild blackberry.

And these, wild multiflora roses.

The first fire pinks are blooming too.

Saw this guy in a tree down by the swimming hole.

The deer are wary now, since its fawning season.

Wet weather brings .....Mushrooms!

What a variety.
Like these gray inverted mushrooms,

and this bright orange fungus called chicken mushroom,

or this shelf like fungus on a tree.

Or how 'bout this cup-like one,
with babies!

And this big wavy one, in my front yard.
Yep, its been wet!

Rain, rain, go away!

It has rained for days.
Even this toad was tucked up under the porch roof to escape the deluge.

Good weather for tadpoles though!

The moisture in the air and cool nights give way to foggy mornings.

Jasper in the mist.

Born in a barn

I can't believe I didn't notice this nest before now.
It is on top of a light fixture in the horse barn.

Looks like at least two baby birds that are almost ready to fledge.
