Harbor Seals

Captain John also took us near Egg Harbor Lighthouse
to see a seal colony.

Lobstering

Lobster fishing uses traps to catch lobsters on the ocean floor.

 Lobster traps on the docks.
Lobster boats in the harbor.

Each fisherman has a particular colored buoy to mark his traps.

A lobsterman checking his traps.

We hitched a ride on Lulu's Lobster Boat
and Captain John explained the process.

Measuring to see if its a keeper,
its not.

But there were plenty of keepers at the lobster pound!

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park was the first national park east of the Mississippi River.
It is a diverse park with mountains, ocean shoreline, woodlands and lakes.

Schoodic Peninsula is a beautiful area.

At Thunder Hole you can experience the thunder of the ocean waves against the rocky shore.

Jordan Pond is serene.

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is near the south end of the park.

The summit of Cadillac Mountain is solid granite.
Acadia also has 47 miles of carriage roads reserved for
pedestrians, bicyclists & horseback riding.
A definite must-see if you visit Maine.

The Rain in Maine....

Our time in Maine was rainy & foggy.

Mood weather appropriate for the setting.

White Mountains in New Hampshire

Our next destination was the Franconia Notch
in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The notch is an area where two mountain ranges meet.

While exporing the area, we found an interesting water feature called the basin.

The force of the water had carved out a bowl in the rock.

We also hiked the Flume Gorge,
a narrow gorge, with a boardwalk along it.

The White Mountains had some great scenic hiking.

Ice Cream in Vermont

We passed through Vermont enjoying the pastoral views.

We did, however, make one important stop....
Ben & Jerry's factory tour!

Photos weren't allowed during the actual factory tour
(trade secrets and all),
but I did see where they stored some important ingredients.
They were making a popular flavor,Cherry Garcia, while we were there.

And we received free samples of their new flavor,
Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Snack
which had chocolate covered potato chips in it.

 Saw some other stuff too.

Yep, we all scream for ice cream!

On to the Adirondacks

Next stop, the Adirondack region of New York.

A land of quaint cottages

cozy cabins

and serene lakes.

Forested lakes invite canoeing,

fishing,

hiking,

or just enjoying the view.

Mist in the Air - Niagara Falls

The blog has been quiet lately, due to the fact we've been traveling.
We visited Niagara Falls and it goes without saying,
that you really must see it in person to appreciate it.

The falls are actually several falls.

The larger U-shaped falls are called Horseshoe Falls.

This is Niagara Falls, with the smaller Bridal Veil Falls to the right.
See the red decking near the Bridal Veil Falls?
That's where we went.

The attraction is called Cave of the Winds
and takes you 175 feet down below the falls to see them up close.

The power, wind & pounding sound of the water is awesome.

Here's a view of the decking from above the falls.

The falls throw a mist into the air all around the area.

And creates a beautiful rainbow.
Truly a wonder to see.
