Forensics, Kinda....

Okay, I'm totally an amateur at this,
but here are my thoughts,
worth every penny you paid for them!

The green arrows appear to be pointing at tails bones.
The pink, at the femur or thigh bone, usually the longest bone in the body.
Light blue arrow, indicating vertebrae or backbone.
And the purple arrow,  pointing at tiny ribs around 1 inch long.

And the fur is shades of gray with tinges of reddish brown.

Sooooo, I'm guessing it has a long tail,
small body about the size of my fist, and
has gray/brown fur.

Possibilities:
Baby Opossum -would probably still be in the pouch
Baby Rabbit - tail too long
Baby Squirrel - fur seems too fluffy, but possible
Mole - again tail too long
Rat - possible, but I've not seen many

My verdict:
A baby Squirrel
But only the owl and victim know the truth.
Who are you?

First Bonfire

Spring clean up around the barn
includes disposing of waste hay and fallen branches.
What better way to get rid of it,
than with a bonfire.

The fire burns down as the sun sets on another beautiful spring day.

Its almost as good as camping!

Owl Pellet

I found an owl pellet under the large sycamore tree in our yard.
I've been looking for a pellet for a year and funny how,
when your not looking, there it is.

What's an owl pellet?
Owls don't have teeth, so they eat their prey whole,
using their beak to tear it apart and then swallow large chunks.
The owl slowly digests its meal and regurgitates the indigestible items
such as bones, fur & feathers in the form of a pellet.
So basically, its owl vomit.
Ewwww!

Its not really that bad.
Its dry and quite interesting.
Here's what I found in the pellet.

A tiny leg bone with the ball of a socket joint.

A handful of gray and brown fur.
Any guesses what it was?

Perfect Day for a Ride

The weather was pleasant.
The woods were enchanting,
with wildflowers sprinkled among carpets of lush green foliage.

The creek was serene.

The waterfowl were pairing up and claiming their nesting sites.

A perfect day for a ride with my neighbor on Rocky.

As an added bonus, we found a shed antler!

And packed it home.

Heading home with her treasure.
The end of a perfect ride!

Finally!

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another.
