Gone Batty

I found this dead bat along side the road

when I went to collect the mail.  

He appears to have swooped in front of a car 

and met his fate.

Yes, I know bats carry rabies,

so I was careful in handling him, 

but I couldn't help studying him up close.

Tiny claws on the joint of his wings

 Hind legs are attached closely to the body

Such interesting creatures

Duck Tales

We stayed at a lovely inn at St. George, Utah

complete with a waterfall off the outdoor patio.

We later discovered there were resident ducks.

who entertained us with duck yoga.

Neck rolls,

tail swipe,

 chest feather check,

 a scratch here & there,

and leg stretches.

Finally time for a nap!

Dodging Wildfires

After a mild winter and a hot dry spring,

wildfires are raging in the West.

This is a photo of the High fire burning near 

Rocky Mtn. National Park.

Everywhere we went, 

the fire risk was high.

Reminders were posted at rest stops

Picnic areas

and campgrounds.

Another fire we saw burning outside Mesa Verde.
