Mountains & Islands

Today we drove back through the Cascade Mountains and took a ferry to San Juan Island.

Here's a clearer look at the craggy Cascades.

We squeezed our car onto a Washington State ferry and floated over to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

One well known resident of Friday Harbor is Popeye, a female harbor seal that has been hanging around the marina since 1995.  She got our attention by splashing us as we walked by.  The residents & tourists have been giving her scraps from the nearby fish market.

In 2005, she was named the port's official seal and a sculpture, depicting her cloudy right eye, was installed in her honor in a nearby park.

We also visited South Beach, a jumble of diftwood.

Picked wild blackberries,

And visited a lavender farm.
