I'm blogging about my home, a Midwest farm in Indiana and my travels, hiking & horseback riding, wherever that may take me. Visit often to get your outdoor "fix"! Whether it be from the back of a horse, in hiking boots, or in muck boots, I promise to share a little of Mother Nature with you as often as I can! All pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.

What's in an Owl Pellet?
What is this?
It's not what you think.
Its an owl pellet.
Owls eat their food whole and cannot digest some parts of their prey,
such as hair, bone & feathers. Those parts are then regurgitated as a pellet.
My (future naturalist) granddaughter & I dissected it to see what was inside.
Inside the matted fur were bones & teeth.
We concluded from the size of these vertebrae,
the rodent-like teeth and the color & texture of the fur that the unlucky victim was a squirrel.

Earth Day
While viewing the Fairy Trail,
we ended up at the park where Earth Day was being celebrated.
I received some free trees so the older girls helped me plant them.

We planted a red oak, a spotted oak and a dogwood tree.

The Fairyville Trail
Had a fun weekend with the granddaughters.
The girls explored a fairy trail in our hometown,
a trail with 35 handmade fairy houses of all types .
They loved all the details in the houses.
Five year old Maggie was enthralled with each one.
Lots of fun details on the houses.
The trail went under...
and over bridges.
Maggie couldn't decide which one was her favorite.
She liked them all!
What a fun adventure!

Never Ending Winter
Just when you think Spring is sprung,
winter comes back with a vengeance.
A dusting of snow
And a brand new calf born in the neighboring pasture.
