Kayaking the River

We are having Indian summer weather,

one last hurrah of sunshine & warm temps before Fall takes over.

My oldest grandchild, Liddy reminded me that we haven't been kayaking all year.

So we decided it was a perfect day for floating down the river.

Grandpa was our transport helper, dropping us off & picking us up.

Thanks Grandpa!

It was her first float on the river.

Previously she had kayaked the much smaller creek along our property,

but she did fine and led the way.

Before long, she was paddling under overhanging trees and shooting the rapids,

her favorite part.

Our adventure included exploring a few islands in the river too!

 She didn't know we were making memories,

we were just having fun!

Kayaking the White River

My daughter has signed up to run a triathlon which includes kayaking.

So we decided she'd better get conditioned for her race.

 Kayaks loaded & ready to go.

 And we are off.

 We had fun!

Halfway through, we switched kayaks, so she could decide which one would work best in a race.

 Here we are approaching the last remaining covered bridge in our county.

 We saw lots of wildlife

 This spot had 20 turtles.  

I think a few had jumped in by the time I snapped the photo.

I can only count 17.

 We were watched closely by the local residents 

And my hubby snapped some shots of us from the bridge.

What a perfect day for a float.

Kayaking in February!

The winter has been so mild that the creek

hasn't frozen and has a pretty good flow to it.

So I dusted off the kayak and decided to go for a float.

My husband drove along the creek 

in the ATV with blankets, towels & my down coat

in case I flipped.

Luckily no accidents and it was FUN!
