I'm blogging about my home, a Midwest farm in Indiana and my travels, hiking & horseback riding, wherever that may take me. Visit often to get your outdoor "fix"! Whether it be from the back of a horse, in hiking boots, or in muck boots, I promise to share a little of Mother Nature with you as often as I can! All pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Wood Duck Family
While walking this morning, I encountered a family of Wood ducks,
mom & 11 ducklings.
When mom saw me, she swam upstream, flapping her wings and making lots of
noise to distract me from her babies.
Meanwhile, the ducklings quickly swam downstream away from her.
When I didn't follow mom, she courageously swam directly in front of me,
trying to draw me away from the babies.
Wood ducks are normally very shy and fly away long before I can get close.
What a brave mom!
(Note the turtle on the bank too.)

Feathered Friends
The birds aren't being as secretive, now that they've raised their broods.
I'm enjoying seeing them as they prepare for the colder months.
Flicker
House finch
Catbird
Cardinal
Eastern Kingbird
Red tailed Hawk
Wood ducks
Some will be leaving for warmer places.
See ya in the Spring......

Wet Wild Things
Its been so rainy lately that the only creatures I've seen are wet ones.
This turtle for instance.
This turtle for instance.
And another sighting of the momma wood duck.
Her ducklings are in front of her near the weeds.
Her ducklings are in front of her near the weeds.
And a big ole carp.
