As I hiked one morning,
I though I heard a mockingbird.
I finally found the bird in the top of a tall tree,
singing his heart out, but it was a brown thrasher.
I had no idea these usually secretive birds
were such good singers, but my field guide says
they are in the same family as mockingbirds.
When singing, they repeat a variety of musical phrases twice,
whereas the mockingbird usually repeats each phrase 3 or more times.
