Hiking to the Weavers Needle

We hiked the Peralta Trail,
the most popular hike in the Superstition mountains.

The Dacite Cliffs towered over us at the beginnning.

The trail follows the wash through the Peralta Canyon

Then slowly begins climbing up out of the canyon.
Higher & higher.

Around every turn, we thought we'd reached the summit,
only to have to climb some more.

Until finally we reached the top,
called the Freemont Saddle, and saw the Weaver's Needle.

We stopped for a snack at the summit and
shared our granola with a cliff chipmunk.

And a scrub jay.

We could have continued on 4 more miles past the Needle,
but having spent 2 hours to hike the first 2 miles,
we elected to head back down the canyon.
Its a great hike with plenty of views and lots of exercise!

Beautiful scenery, do you have rattlesnakes?

There are rattlesnakes but we've never seen any.
